About Your Advisor
From a Kingsville Kid
with a lawn mower to
your financial quarterback
The families who have known Jacob Yaklin the longest didn’t come to Semper Financial to be supportive.
They came because they watched him — since he was a kid — and they always knew this was where he was headed.
When Jacob finally opened his own firm, the calls started coming in: “It’s about time. We’re moving our money."
Where It Started
Jacob Yaklin grew up in Kingsville, Texas — a town shaped by the King Ranch, Naval Air Station Kingsville, and a deep agricultural culture that understood the difference between working hard and working smart. From a young age, Jacob was out in the neighborhood mowing lawns, working for local families, and saving everything he made. Not because he had to. Because he wanted to put it to work.
Every summer, Jacob saved his earnings and invested at the end of the season. He discovered compound interest early — and it never left him. While other kids spent what they made, Jacob was already thinking in decades. That discipline wasn’t something he learned later in life. It was baked in from the beginning.
Many of the families he mowed lawns for and worked with as a kid in Kingsville are now his clients. They didn’t follow him to Semper Financial out of loyalty — they followed him because they watched him grow up. They saw the work ethic. They watched him go to A&M;, commission in the Marines, build a career in financial services, and eventually do exactly what they always told him he should do. When he opened this firm, their response wasn’t “congratulations.” It was: “Finally. Now let’s talk about moving our money.”
"Wealth isn’t built in a moment of brilliance. It’s built in thousands of ordinary moments where you choose to wait, save, and let time do what time does.”
The Texas Philosophy of Wealth Building
Low and slow beats
high and fast. Every time.
Jacob grew up in Texas and takes the art of smoking a brisket seriously. The best investment philosophy he knows can be explained right there on the smoker.
The Semper approach — low & slowboarding
Smoking a brisket
Trim it, season it, put it on the smoker, and wait. After many hours, you get something extraordinary — tender, juicy, nearly impossible to ruin. Patience is the point. That’s long-term, disciplined, low-cost investing. The kind that builds real wealth without asking you to be lucky.
The alternative — high heat, high risk
Grilling at high temperature
Done perfectly, great — like a lucky stock pick. But the margin for error is razor-thin. One wrong move and that premium cut is ruined. You can’t undo it. Same with chasing short-term gains. When it works, people brag. When it doesn’t, the loss is permanent.
Serivce & Perspective
“The Marine Corps didn’t teach Jacob about money. It confirmed everything he already believed.
After earning his degree in Agricultural Economics with a focus in Finance and Real Estate from Texas A&M University, Jacob commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps — serving as a Logistics officer, a company commander, and as Battalion Financial Coordinator for a unit of over 1,000 service members.
Toward the end of his time in the Corps, Jacob attended Georgetown University, where he pursued graduate studies in Real Estate — deepening his understanding of property investment, valuation, and wealth-building through real assets.
His time in financial services has reaffirmed what he first observed while serving: financial freedom isn’t reserved for high earners. In fact, the most financially secure people Jacob has worked with — in the military and throughout his career — were savers, not high earners. While high income can build wealth, the clients who arrive at genuine financial independence are overwhelmingly the ones who prioritized saving early and let time compound the rest. Most high-net-worth households got there through discipline. Not a salary.
That insight drives everything about how Semper Financial Planners is built — and who it’s built for.
“I watched junior enlisted Marines making $30,000 a year build more genuine financial security than executives making ten times that. The difference was never the paycheck. It was always the priority.”
Why Semper Financial
He built the firm he always
wished existed for his clients.
After years in the industry, Jacob kept seeing the same problem: clients had an investment advisor, a CPA, and an estate attorney — but none of them talked to each other. He started Semper Financial to be the solution. One advisor. One fee. One person who coordinates everything. A true financial quarterback.
The name comes from the Latin word “semper” — always. It’s a nod to his Marine Corps roots and a promise: Semper Financial will always act in your interest. Always be faithful to the relationship. Always put the client first. For Jacob, that’s not a marketing line. It’s a standard of conduct.
“I don’t want 300 clients. I want 80 families who know that when they call, I pick up.”

Outside The Office
The same values at home
as in the office
Jacob is married to Melyn, his high school sweetheart from Kingsville. They recently welcomed their first daughter. Jacob’s clients don’t just know him — they know Melyn. They’ve shared meals, attended the same events and church, and built real friendships that go well beyond an annual review meeting. That depth of relationship isn’t incidental. It’s intentional.
Outside of work, Jacob’s passion for cars is still very much alive — and it has taken him to the track. He participated in a time-trial car race alongside one of his clients, an experience that captures something he genuinely believes: the best client relationships extend far beyond a conference room. You show up for the people you work with. In the office and out of it.
The patience it took to get the car he wanted. The discipline it took to build the firm he envisioned. The relationships built over decades that started with a lawn mower and ended up here. It all connects.
What Jacob Believes
